Background
iLUX is a UX research laboratory which I volunteered for and helped conducted various research projects.
The lab director wanted a new design for their website and include the business partners section into the website, they presented me with a website from a similar lab as reference and asked me to help coming up new design.
My Role
For this project, I worked as the sole designer to create the new web design.
Design Analysis
After reviewing the original website, I noticed that it contained a few design issues that reduce the usability of the site and overall experience.
The Navigation bar uses low contrast text color over the background. The About Us section and Tools & Services section included excessive white spaces can be better utilized.
The Gallery section has great media assets and a missed opportunity to use the original imagery throughout the webpage.
iLUX lab belongs to the Arizona State University which has an unified design and branding guideline that the website didn't match to the best of their ability.
Results
To address the issues discovered during the analysis phase. I created the redesigned version of the current website. I applied the design and branding guideline from Arizona State University, I increased the font size and rearranged the copy-writing with imagery to create a more engaging reading experience.
The director was pleased with the new design. But unfortunately, they didn't have the staff and resource to develop the a website with the new design at the time.

My Learning
This was my first experience working in the field of UX and redesign website. Performing design analysis and pinpointing down the aspects to address were very beneficial. Learning to use an existing branding guideline also helped me to select fonts and colors and balancing contents in a given space. Breaking the reference page into simple wireframe also provided me a structure to work with. All these processes have made the entire design process more productive.
